Why Does Your Business Need a Network Switch?
Having a robust network is vital, whether you are a solopreneur or a fortune 50 company. Network switches help keep your network stable and scalable.
Switches help connect various devices on a single network, such as computers, printers, IP Cameras, Telecommunications and more. They help all users on your network access these resources securely and reliably.
What is a Stackable Network Switch?
Stackable network switches are individual network switches that can operate alone but can also be joined with each other. The joined together switches, or stack, operate as if they were one single switch but maintain the port capacity.
The Benefits of Using Stackable Switches
Stackable switches have many great benefits over regular switches, especially to fast-growing businesses.
Easy to scale
Stackable switches allow you to plug in multiple switches into the stack. This means when you run out of ports in your current setup, you can easily plug in new switches to grow your network. This is useful if you are unsure of how many devices will eventually be needed.
Multiple Switches Behaving as One
Using stackable switches means you can monitor all the switches on one IP address. Most stackable switches come in a managed format. The D-Link DGS-3130 series has fantastic management capabilities. It comes with easy-to-use software to help manage your switches.
D-Link DGS-3130 Series Gigabit Layer 3 Stackable Managed Switches

Enhanced Network Reliability
While the D-Link DGS-3130 Series is designed with small businesses in mind, the switches have Enterprise-level capabilities built in. High security, flexible configuration and robust hardware help protect your network from security threats and unnecessary downtime.
All the models in the D-Link DGS-3130 series support an additional external redundant power supply to ensure continued operation when problems occur.
Additionally, these D-Link DGS-3130 series integrate essential reliability features to enhance network resilience, including 802.1D Spanning Tree (STP), 802.1w Rapid Spanning Tree (RSTP), and 802.1s Multiple Spanning Tree (MSTP), Loopback Detection (LBD), and Broadcast Storm Control. G.8032 Ethernet Ring Protection Switching (ERPS) minimises the recovery time to 50ms.
For load sharing and redundancy in a switch cascading/server attachment configuration, the D-Link DGS-3130 Series provides dynamic 802.3ad Link Aggregation Port Trunking.
Physical and Virtual Stacking
The D-Link DGS-3130 allows for 9 units per physical stack. It has a maximum of 324 ports and up to 80GB of bandwidth. You can have up to 32 units in a virtual stack. With D-link’s Single IP Management software, you can manage all units with ease.
Network security is a high priority for any business, but the D-Link DGS-3130 series takes security to the next level. These switches pull in all the latest security features:
- Multi-layer and packet content access control lists
- Storm Control
- IP-MAC-Port binding to enhance user access control.
- DHCP Snooping
On top of all these features is D-Link’s Safeguard Engine. D-Link’s expert technicians are always keeping this software up to date with all current dangers.
The Safeguard Engine is designed to protect switches against abnormally high traffic levels, caused by viruses or worms. The Safeguard Engine helps detect these issues and identify legitimate traffic to prioritise.
Easy Access Control Policies
The D-Link DGS-3130 Series supports multiple authentication mechanisms for access control and easy deployment. Included are 802.1X, Web-based Access Control (WAC), and MAC-based Access Control (MAC).
After authentication, VLAN membership, QoS policies, and ACL rules can be assigned to each host.
In addition, the D-Link DGS-3130 series also supports Microsoft® NAP (Network Access Protection).
Versatile Traffic Management
A rich set of multi-layer QoS/CoS features ensure that critical network services are always given high priority. The D-Link DGS-3130 Series priorities features such as VoIP, video conferences, IPTV, and IP surveillance to ensure high-quality service.
Another great feature is Traffic Shaping. This guarantee bandwidth for high priority services when the network is busy.
L2 Multicast support enables the D-Link DGS-3130 Series to handle growing IPTV applications. Host-based IGMP/MLD Snooping allows multiple multicast subscribers per physical interface while ISM VLAN allows the switches to send multicast streams in a multicast VLAN to save bandwidth, and to provide better security to the backbone network. The ISM VLAN profiles allow administrators to bind or replace the pre-defined multicast registration information to subscriber ports quickly and easily
