The HPE Networking Instant On Switch 8p Gigabit 1p CL3 PD 1840 provides eight Gigabit Ethernet connections in a compact fanless chassis for small offices, retail environments, and other locations requiring straightforward wired connectivity. Its first RJ-45 port supports IEEE 802.3af Class 3 PoE input, allowing the switch to receive up to 13W from an upstream PoE source when mains power is unavailable. The remaining seven ports provide standard 10/100/1000BASE-T connectivity, while Instant On cloud, mobile app, and local web management give administrators convenient ways to configure and monitor the network.
Eight autosensing RJ-45 ports support 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX and 1000BASE-T connections. Each port automatically negotiates the appropriate network speed, making the switch suitable for connecting computers, printers, access points, cameras and other Ethernet devices.
Unlike a conventional non-PoE switch, this model can receive power through its network connection. Port 1 accepts IEEE 802.3af Class 3 PoE input with a maximum of 13W, which can be useful in locations where a nearby mains outlet is not available. An external power adapter can also be used.
Network administrators can configure and monitor the switch through the Instant On Cloud Portal, mobile application or local web interface. The platform provides tools for device monitoring, configuration management, firmware updates, topology viewing and troubleshooting across Instant On networks.
The switch supports VLANs, 802.1D Spanning Tree Protocol, Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol, loop protection, link aggregation, LLDP, LLDP-MED, IGMP snooping and port mirroring. These features provide administrators with practical controls for organising traffic and managing connected devices.
Built-in security capabilities include TPM 2.0-based security, automatic denial-of-service protection, global storm control and traffic filtering. Local management also provides event logs, session logging, remote syslog support, cable diagnostics and IPv4 ping testing for network administration and fault finding.
