The HPE Networking Instant On Switch 8p Gigabit CL4 PoE 2p SFP 124W 1840 provides eight Gigabit Ethernet ports with IEEE 802.3at Class 4 PoE across all eight RJ-45 connections, giving compatible devices both network connectivity and power through a single cable. With a 124W total PoE budget and two dedicated 1GbE SFP ports for uplink connections, it offers a practical combination of copper access ports, PoE capability and fibre connectivity for small offices, retail sites and other compact networks.
All eight RJ-45 ports support 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet and IEEE 802.3at Class 4 PoE. This allows devices such as wireless access points, IP phones, surveillance cameras and other compatible equipment to receive network connectivity and power through their Ethernet connection.
The 124W total PoE budget provides power for multiple connected devices while retaining the Gigabit switching capabilities of the eight copper ports. PoE management features include port scheduling and configurable PoE controls.
Two dedicated 1GbE SFP ports provide additional uplink options for fibre or compatible copper transceivers. These ports can be used to connect the switch to another network switch, aggregation point or suitable upstream network equipment.
The switch can be managed through the HPE Networking Instant On mobile application, cloud-based web portal or local web interface. These management options provide access to configuration, monitoring, firmware updates and network administration without requiring additional management licensing.
Layer 2 capabilities include VLAN support, Spanning Tree Protocol, Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol, link aggregation, LLDP, LLDP-MED, IGMP snooping and port mirroring. These features provide useful controls for traffic separation, redundancy and network monitoring.
Security features include TPM 2.0, global storm control and automatic denial-of-service protection, while IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet and automatic port shutdown help reduce power use during periods of lower activity.
With eight PoE-enabled Gigabit access ports and two 1GbE SFP uplinks, the switch combines copper connectivity, device power and uplink flexibility in a compact 1840-series platform. Its fanless operation also makes it suitable for locations where low acoustic output is preferred.
