The Veracity VOR-ORL-GXT OUTREACH Lite G XT is a compact inline Ethernet extender designed to carry Gigabit network traffic beyond standard cable limits using Power over Ethernet for its own operation. It is intended for installations where long cable runs are required and where local power at the extension point is not practical, supporting stable data transmission across extended distances in structured network deployments.
OUTREACH Lite GXT takes advantage of the universal 802.3af/at/bt POE standards, so it can draw its own power from the network connection. No local power is required, so OUTREACH Lite GXT can be located exactly where needed.
If your gigabit network switch has POE, simply connect OUTREACH Lite GXT up to 100 metres from the switch, and it will deliver another 100 metres’ reach over regular Cat5e or similar cable (Diagram 1). If POE is not available, the link can easily be upgraded using a low-cost POE injector such as Veracity's OUTSOURCE 30 (Diagram 2) which is gigabit compatible.
No set-up or network configuration is required, as OUTREACH Lite GXT automatically sets up network speed, duplex and crossover on connection, and does not require an IP or MAC address.
If a network extension beyond 200 metres (656 feet) is required, Veracity's OUTREACH Max GXT may be installed to extend Ethernet and POE to OUTREACH Lite GXT. For example, a 300 metre (984 feet) connection between a gigabit POE switch and another network device can be achieved by fitting an OUTREACH Max GXT at 100 metres along the cable, followed by 100m then an OUTREACH Lite GXT, and up to 100m to the non POE networked end-point device (such as another switch or a Wireless Access Point).
For longer Ethernet runs, Veracity recommends LONGSPAN long distance point-to-point devices, which can achieve 100Base-TX connections with POE at up to 820m (2,690ft).
Because OUTREACH Max GXT and OUTREACH Lite GXT simply restore the network connection every 100 metres, full gigabit bandwidth Ethernet is maintained across the entire link. This maximises performance and transparency, with no risk of a reduced or unpredictable bandwidth, even at distances of several hundred metres or more.
OUTREACH Lite XT lets you locate your external IP camera or wireless transmitter right where you want it, without being restricted by the 100metre (328 feet) limit for Ethernet cables.
Based on Veracity's established OUTREACH Max extender, compatibility with regular 802.3af POE, 802.3at POE plus and 802.3bt High power POE is assured, with no configuration or setup required.
Its rugged and streamlined enclosure features IP67, NEMA 4X/6P rated connector covers that assemble easily around conventionally terminated Cat 5e and Cat 6 cables.
Guaranteed operation over an extended temperature range and versatile mounting options mean OUTREACH Max XT is suited to a wide range of installation scenarios.
And inter-building network links or extension to non-POE equipment is also supported, with Veracity's OUTREACH Lite XT model.
OUTREACH Max XT Ethernet extenders are ideal for IP video applications, as they eliminate the one disadvantage that network cameras have compared to older analogue cameras: the limited cable length. As POE is becoming universal in digital video installations, Cat 5 cable extension is as simple as connecting an OUTREACH Max XT wherever it is needed.
OUTREACH Max XT can also be used to upgrade legacy twisted-pair video installations to IP with POE, where the Cat 5 infrastructure for a network is already in place, but run lengths exceed the 100 meter limit for Ethernet.
PTZ cameras, heater/blower units and door interlocks are all examples of products that are adopting the extended-power POE Plus standard that OUTREACH Max XT also supports.
Like IP cameras, wireless access points (WAPs) are ideally suited to POE as they must be positioned optimally in locations that are often inaccessible or remote. Using OUTREACH Max XT, a WAP - or Bluetooth access point or RFID reader - can be located just where it is needed for optimal coverage.
High-power radios and 802.11n APs can take advantage of the POE Plus power which OUTREACH Max XT supports.
OUTREACH Max XT can be used in combination with OUTREACH Lite XT to extend networks without POE from 300 meters to over 2 kilometers.
