The Teltonika EBD070 is a Calyx 5G RedCap Embedded Cellular Raspberry Pi HAT+ that adds 5G RedCap and LTE connectivity to Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi 5 systems. It mounts directly onto the Raspberry Pi 40-pin header and combines cellular communication with GPIO modem control, PCM audio support and USB connectivity, providing a compact option for embedded projects that require mobile network access.
The Calyx 5G RedCap variant provides cellular connectivity through 5G and 4G LTE technologies. RedCap, or Reduced Capability 5G, provides a cellular option between conventional LTE and full 5G performance, making it suitable for embedded and IoT applications that require modern 5G connectivity without the requirements of a full 5G modem.
The HAT+ connects directly to Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi 5 boards through the 40-pin header. This allows cellular functionality to be incorporated into Raspberry Pi projects while keeping the modem closely integrated with the host computer.
The 40-pin interface provides GPIO connections for modem management. The PWR_KEY interface can be used to control modem power, allowing the Raspberry Pi to wake, switch and manage the cellular module through its GPIO pins.
A USB Type-C connector provides an additional interface for the cellular module and supports 5 VDC power. The EBD070 can expose USB interfaces to the Raspberry Pi for modem communication, with Teltonika providing instructions for ModemManager and USB serial driver installation.
The cellular module uses a SIM connection and external antenna connectivity for mobile network access. Teltonika specifies that external antennas used with the EBD070 must maintain the required separation from people and comply with applicable RF exposure and maximum radiated power requirements.
PCM audio support provides digital audio connectivity for applications that require cellular communication alongside audio functionality. This adds another interface option for developers creating Raspberry Pi-based embedded systems.
The compact HAT+ format makes the EBD070 suitable for embedded projects where mobile connectivity is required in addition to Raspberry Pi computing. Potential applications include remote monitoring, IoT gateways, telemetry, connected equipment and other systems operating in locations where wired Ethernet or Wi-Fi may not be available.
