The Veracity VLS-1N-L LONGSPAN Lite is a compact Ethernet extension device designed to carry standard network traffic far beyond the usual 100-metre limit. It works as part of a paired setup, allowing existing copper cabling to be reused for long-distance data transmission without requiring complex configuration. The unit is intended for straightforward deployment in environments where direct network cabling runs are not practical.
All LONGSPAN devices are data compatible and interchangeable for data transmission. Therefore LONGSPAN Lite may be used for long distance links to LONGSPAN devices with POE capability, including locally powered LONGSPAN Camera, LONGSPAN Max Camera or LONGSPAN Max Camera Quad devices. (See the Diagram below). If power is available at the camera end in this way, it provides the maximum possible POE output to the POE powered device from each type of LONGSPAN Camera device.
IP cameras can demand peak network bandwidth of several times their average data rate while transmitting high-activity or low-light scenes. LONGSPAN Lite has been designed to run IP data connections on 820 metres (2,690 feet) of normal network cable, supporting the aggregated 200Mbps required for full-duplex 100Base-TX Ethernet. The full speed Ethernet provided by LONGSPAN Lite ensures perfect image quality at critical moments, even at the longest cable ranges.
For even more extreme distances, LONGSPAN can automatically drop to 10Base-T operation, supporting a range of over 1,000 metres (3,280ft). Alternatively, two or three pairs of LONGSPANs may be connected in series to double or triple the total transmission distance.
LONGSPAN Lite is designed for long distance data connections without POE. A simple example would be a bridge connection between two distant network switches, or connecting devices which have local power, are battery-powered or are solar-powered.
LONGSPAN also supports 1-pair and 2-pair cable with extended range, so analogue cameras connected with baluns over UTP cable can be upgraded to IP with no need to replace the existing cabling infrastructure.
LONGSPAN Lite self-configures for the best performance every time it is connected. No user setup, no DIP switch settings, and no system pairings are required.
At the base end, high density installations are supported with a neat, configurable rackmounting system which allows up to 24 LONGSPAN Lite devices to be installed in a 1U rack plate, with rear mounting tray for power supplies. Non-POE LONGSPAN Lite and POE-capable LONGSPAN Base devices can be mixed in the rack as required.
The latest LONGSPAN devices have enhanced in-built surge protection, but for long external cable runs the use of appropriate surge protection devices is strongly recommended to protect all devices on the links.

Unrivalled range, uncompromised bandwidth
IP cameras can demand peak network bandwidth of several times their average data rate while transmitting critical high-activity or low-light scenes. That's why LONGSPAN has been designed to support the full 200Mbps bandwidth required for reliable 100Base-TX Ethernet at up to 820 metres Cat 6 (or 690 metres Cat 5e).
For even more extreme distances, LONGSPAN can automatically negotiate a 10Base-T connection, supporting a range in excess of 1000 metres, over ten times the conventional limit for cabled Ethernet.
More power, much further
LONGSPAN models with POE can be powered from conventional IEEE 802.3af POE or 802.3at POE Plus switches and injectors, or Veracity's versatile power supply options can be specified for maximum range and power.
The full 25 watts required for POE Plus devices is available at up to 600 metres Cat 6 when a Veracity power supply is used, or 5 to 20 watts can be delivered from other POE sources depending on range and cable type.
Upgrade to IP, keep the UTP
Sites with legacy analogue cameras often use UTP baluns to send video over several hundred metres of twisted pair cable. LONGSPAN facilitates a simple upgrade path to IP for these installations.
LONGSPAN can automatically detect and adapt to single-pair cables, and deliver the same uncompromised 10 or 100Base-TX connection up to 900 metres, assuring predictable IP video quality each and every time.
High density, high reliability
LONGSPAN's unique, expandable mounting system permits up to 24 channels to be mounted in just 1U of rack space, with configurable rear-mount power supplies available if desired.
Smart diagnostic LEDs, including a Safeview™ display on POE models, provide instant confirmation of cable-dependent power availability, and feedback of remote link status and other diagnostic information, for fast, confident installation.
