The DJI LiDAR Range Finder (RS) is a compact focusing and depth-sensing module built for DJI RS gimbals, designed to deliver accurate distance mapping for camera setups that rely on manual or cinema lenses. It combines LiDAR depth measurement with a built-in visual sensor to help maintain consistent focus on subjects across varying shooting conditions, including low-light and dynamic movement scenarios.
It can project 43,200 ranging points, detect within a 14-meter range, and has a built-in camera with an equivalent focal length of 30 mm and a wide FOV of 70°, which can handle the focusing needs of most scenarios. Pairing with the new Focus Motor (2022) also makes autofocus on manual lenses possible after calibration. It was also tested in an environment without strong light. In normal shooting environments, the detection distance of human subjects is 7 meters.
The LiDAR focusing system makes focusing easier for hand-held shooting, without relying on the surface texture of the subject. This is especially useful in low-light environments and results in exceptional focusing capabilities.
When connected with compatible DJI focus motor setups, the system enables precise control over manual lenses by translating depth data into focus adjustments, supporting repeatable focus positions across different shots.
The combined LiDAR and visual sensing system assists gimbal tracking by maintaining stable focus on moving subjects, making it suitable for handheld and active shooting environments where subject motion is frequent.
