The Allied Telesis AT-GS980MX/18HSM-30 is a compact, high-capacity Layer 3 Lite managed switch designed for high-speed network edge deployments. Part of the GS980MX Series, this 16-port Multi-Gigabit PoE++ switch combines 2.5G/5G access ports, dual 10G SFP+ uplinks, and a stackable architecture to deliver resilient, scalable connectivity for environments powering Wi-Fi 6/6E access points, advanced surveillance systems, and other bandwidth-intensive edge devices.
The AT-GS980MX/18HSM-30 provides sixteen Multi-Gigabit access ports supporting speeds up to 5Gbps. This ensures optimal performance for next-generation Wi-Fi access points, high-resolution cameras, and other data-hungry edge devices, while maintaining low latency and wire-speed forwarding.
With support for IEEE 802.3bt PoE++, the switch can supply up to 90 watts per port and a total PoE budget of 720W. This makes it suitable for powering demanding devices such as PTZ cameras with heaters, high-performance wireless access points, and other PoE-powered infrastructure without external power injectors.
Two integrated SFP+ ports provide flexible 10 Gigabit uplink connectivity to aggregation or core switches. Support for a wide range of fibre and direct-attach modules allows the switch to adapt easily to different network topologies and distance requirements.
Using Allied Telesis Virtual Chassis Stacking (VCStack™), up to four GS980MX switches can operate as a single logical unit. This improves resiliency through fast failover, simplifies management, and enables scalable growth while maintaining consistent configuration and control.
The AT-GS980MX/18HSM-30 supports Layer 3 Lite functionality including static routing, RIP for IPv4 and IPv6, and Equal Cost Multi-Path (ECMP) routing. These capabilities allow efficient traffic distribution and segmentation closer to the network edge.
Powered by the AlliedWare Plus operating system, the switch integrates with Autonomous Management Framework Plus (AMF Plus) and Vista Manager EX. Features such as zero-touch provisioning, automated recovery, NETCONF/RESTCONF support, and a web-based GUI significantly reduce deployment and operational overhead.
Enterprise-grade security includes IEEE 802.1X authentication, access control lists, DHCP snooping, Dynamic ARP Inspection, and secure management protocols. Advanced QoS ensures prioritisation of voice and video traffic, while diagnostic tools such as Active Fiber Monitoring, cable fault detection, and port mirroring simplify troubleshooting and maintenance.
Housed in a 1RU rack-mountable chassis measuring 441 x 256 x 44 mm, the AT-GS980MX/18HSM-30 fits easily into standard network cabinets. Eco-friendly features allow unused ports and LEDs to be disabled, helping reduce power consumption while maintaining full performance when required.
