Water lurks in walls, ceilings, floors and air conditioning evaporator trays - it can seriously damage your data room equipment. Geist water rope allows detection of moisture over a wide area. When attached to a Geist climate unit, and water is detected, alarms can be sent by email and/or SNMP trap. Geist water rope is available supplied to length required, to a maximum of 300 feet, using extensions.
Connections:
The sensing cable (orange wire) is attached to the floor using small nylon J-clips. It connects to the leader cable, which in turn is connected to the wall-mounted interface box. An LED on the box provides a visual indication of system status.
Four signal wires connect to terminals on the interface box. One pair of wires detects water while the other pair can report damaged cable. Both sets of wires connect the interface box to the climate monitor.
There are two options for connecting the signal wires to the Geist climate monitoring unit. One is to attach the wire to analogue input terminals. The second option is to use two CCAT interfaces (available as a Geist environmental monitoring accessory). Each CCAT converts the analogue signal into digital, allowing the use of digital sensor ports when analogue inputs aren’t available.
Alarms:
The Geist climate monitor continuously monitors the water rope to check whether water has been detected. If water is found the climate monitor follows the actions of the user-defined alarms. Options include: sending alerts through email or SNMP and, depending upon the specification of the climate unit, trigger an alarm buzzer or energise an output relay. Alarm thresholds are configured through the web interface provided by the Geist climate monitor.
