Netgear design recognised with six Red Dot Awards

The aesthetic design of Netgear’s home security and networking products has been praised after winning six Red Dot Awards.

Leading Netgear’s winning parade was the Arlo Pro Smart Home Security Camera - the world’s first entirely wire-free, weatherproof, rechargeable HD home monitoring system - followed by the Arlo Quadpod Mount - a four-legged mount designed to wrap around tree branches and metal poles.

Also picking up a Red Dot Award was the high-speed Orbi Home Tri-band Wi-Fi System and a trio of products under the Nighthawk banner: the M1 mobile router [pictured], the S800 Gaming and Media Streaming Switch and the X10 AD7200 Smart Wi-Fi Router.

First held in 1955, the Red Dot Awards are considered to be the highest honour in product design excellence.

A record 5,500 entries from 54 countries entered the awards this time round, with the winners being selected by an international jury of around 40 independent designers, design professors and journalists.

All the winning products will be displayed as part of the world’s largest exhibition of contemporary design in the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, Germany, following a gala on July 3rd.

James Hathway, Netgear’s senior industrial designer, said the company has “a long history of emphasising form as well as function”.

He commented: “We invest effort into designing technologically superior products that are pleasing to the eye and touch, and that highlight elegance as well as performance. We’re proud that the Red Dot Awards jury has recognised our work year after year.”

Professor Dr Peter Zec, founder and CEO of the Red Dot Award, added that Netgear are “pursuing the right design strategy” and have “recognised that good design and economic success go hand in hand”.

The Nighthawk M1 mobile router launched as the world’s first Gigabit LTE device, offering superfast mobile download speeds of up to 1Gbps and capable of supporting up to 20 Wi-Fi devices.

Meanwhile, the Nighthawk X10 is the industry’s fastest router for media streaming, with maximum combined wireless speeds of 7.2Gbps.
