Netgear fleshes out Orbi range with two new systems

Two new products have been added to Netgear’s Orbi range, designed specifically for smaller to mid-sized homes.

The new RBK30 includes an AC2200 router and wall-plug satellite designed to cover an area of up to 3,500 sq ft, while the RBK40 manages up to 4,000 sq ft.

Netgear says it has expanded its range of Orbi Home Tri-band Wi-Fi systems due to customer demand for better Wi-Fi throughout their homes and to cater for different home environments, from apartments to single family homes and sprawling estates.

Orbi is being touted as a driving force behind the growth of home Wi-Fi systems, and Netgear says these two new systems demonstrate the company’s commitment to and leadership in this field.

The system uses a unique, industry-first Tri-band architecture with a dedicated 5GHz wireless connection between the router and satellite. This provides reliable Wi-Fi coverage and maximum internet speed throughout a home with a single network name.

All Orbi systems deliver industry-leading 802.11ac AC2200 Wi-Fi speeds of up to 2.2Gbps, so users can enjoy seamless Wi-Fi anywhere in their home without dead zones.

David Henry, Netgear’s senior vice president of home networking devices, commented: “With our patented industry-first Tri-band Wi-Fi provided by the Orbi Wi-Fi systems, you can now enjoy optimum Wi-Fi performance even at the furthest edge of your property.

“Each of these new Orbi systems with AC2200 Wi-Fi are faster than competitive products with legacy AC1200 Wi-Fi. All Orbi home Wi-Fi systems are Tri-band versus the competition, which are dual band mesh. Due to the use of the innovative Tri-band technology, multiple independent reviewers and testers around the world have proven that Orbi Wi-Fi systems deliver far superior performance for more simultaneously streaming devices.”

The original RBK50 Orbi retails from £360 in the UK, but only US prices have been confirmed for the two new additions with the RBK30 carrying an RRP of $299.99 (£238), while the RBK40 costs $349.99 (£278).
