Netgear prides new access point on easy management

Netgear has launched a new wireless AC Wave 2 access point, which, it claims, is the easiest to manage in the whole industry.

The company’s AC WiFi Business Access Point (WAC510) delivers reliable, high performance, high-density public WiFi for small businesses.

But the real selling point is that it can be easily managed through Netgear’s new Insight mobile app, negating the need for a separate wireless controller.

“What could be simpler and more time-efficient than setting up and monitoring your access points through your smartphone or tablet?” asked Netgear’s vice president of SMB product line management Richard Jonker.

The WAC510 Access Point features the latest Multi-User MIMO (MU-MIMO) technology to achieve aggregate WiFi speeds up to 1.2Gbps (300 Mbps at 2.4GHz and 900 Mbps at 5GHz) and offers two Ethernet ports, including a Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) 1GbE 802.3af port for easy, single-wire deployment of a PoE switch.

There are two operation modes: a router mode for single WAC510 deployment in a small office and an access point mode for multiple WAC510 deployment in a larger scenario. The access point also boasts a compact, elegant design and can be mounted on a wall or ceiling.

Mr Jonker added that the new WAC510 access point’s combination of performance, features, lifetime warranty and ease-of-management makes it the smartest, most affordable option for businesses needing to scale their WiFi to support a growing number of users and devices.

Eric Gorman, Netgear’s chief operating officer of integrated enterprise systems, believes that the Insight app is a great addition to an already high performance access point.

“I really like the overall user interface and it is very well organised,” he said. “Having all of the management capability directly in my palm allows me access anytime, anywhere.

“I believe that the IT managers of the future are going to be very smartphone-centric, and the Netgear Insight app is a great testament to the company’s understanding of their customers.”
