Netgear launches new 1Gbps mobile router

Netgear has teamed up with Telstra to launch the world’s first gigabit 4G LTE device.

With download speeds of up to 1Gbps, Netgear’s Nighthawk M1 mobile router has been hailed as the ultimate travel companion.

This mobile hotspot boasts all the functionality of a regular router, serving up to 20 Wi-Fi devices on a single connection with support for category 16 LTE advanced, 4X4 MIMO and 4-band carrier aggregation.

Parental control options are included, as is an improved JumpBoost feature that charges smartphones and small portable USB devices and a long-lasting battery for continuous use up to 24 hours. The Nighthawk M1 can also serve as a media hub for streaming and playing multimedia entertainment.

Users can control the mobile router key functions by using Netgear’s new mobile app, which lets them manage devices, storage, security and restricted websites.

Andrew Green, Netgear’s vice president of mobile network products, said: “The Nighthawk M1 offers the latest LTE and Wi-Fi technologies, so you can take full advantage of ultrafast download speeds on the Telstra Mobile Network and securely share your internet connection to support media streaming, storage and so much more.”

‘Cutting edge’

Netgear and Telstra have worked together on innovative mobile broadband products for the past 15 years.

Telstra’s director of device management Andrew Volard has said he is pleased their partnership is still breaking new ground.

“We’re innovating at the cutting edge of mobile broadband technology so our customers can work with greater ease on the go and access the content, services and applications they love when they’re outside the home,” Mr Volard commented.

“The Nighthawk M1 mobile router offers incredibly fast data transfer speeds, a long-lasting battery, and other great features for a world-class mobile experience.”

It is already on sale in Australia, with an RRP of $360 (£223). UK prices and availability are expected to emerge in due course.
