The DES-3052P is part of D-Link's family of premium devices in the entry-level network management category. With Power over Ethernet (PoE) support, 4 Gigabit uplinks, comprehensive network security, granular bandwidth control and extensive network management, this switch is rich in functions allowing organisations set up secure and effective departmental networks at an affordable cost.The DES-3052P provides 48 Ethernet ports and is equipped with 4 Gigabit uplinks, with the SFP supporting both fibre Gigabit and 100Base-FX fibre connection for specific applications. 802.3af PoE is integrated into every switch port. Hence any 802.3af compliant device can be powered by the switch via the standard Ethernet cables, to a maximum of 15.4W per device and 370 W for the switch. The DES-3052P includes many security features including Access Control Lists (ACLs), 802.1X Port-Based/MAC-Based Access Control and 802.1X Guest VLAN so that network access is available only to authorised users.To enhance network resilience, the switch supports Spanning Tree protocols, including 802.1D, 802.1w and 802.1s for redundant bridge paths. In addition, a unique feature, D-Link Safeguard Engine, allows administrators to configure thresholds that limit the impact of packet flooding to the switch's CPU typically caused by virus/worm outbreaks. This increases the switch's reliability and availability.Network administrators can define throughput levels for each port to manage bandwidth. Fine granularity down to 64 Kbps can be achieved. For Quality of Service (QoS), the switch supports 802.1p Priority Queues and packet classification based on ToS, DSCP, MAC, IP, VLAN ID and protocol type, to ensure that critical network services like VoIP, ERP, Intranet and video conference are prioritised.The switch also provides IGMP snooping to control multicast transmission and port mirroring to facilitate diagnostics. In addition, 802.3ad Link Aggregation allows high-speed links to be created between switches or to servers.The DES-3052P supports D-Link's Single IP Management (SIM), which simplifies and speeds up management tasks by allowing multiple switches to be configured, monitored and maintained from any workstation running a web browser. Up to 32 switch units -regardless of the model- can form this virtual stack, which is managed as a single object identified by a single IP address. Most management and configuration tasks are performed via a simple web-based interface.Other management protocols include standard-based SNMP, RMON, Telnet, Web GUI, SSH/SSL security authentication and DHCP Relay Option 82. With DHCP autoconfiguration, the administrator can pre-set configurations and save them in a TFTP server. High port density and PoE support The DES-3052 series provides 48 Fast Ethernet ports, with or without PoE in low profile rack-mount cases. This switch is equipped with four Gigabit Ethernet ports including the two combo SFP capable of both Gigabit and 100BASE-FX fiber connections for user-specific applications.
Security and availability The DES-3052 series supports 802.1X Port-based/host-based access control, guest VLAN, and RADIUS and TACAS+ for strict access control over the network. The IP-MAC-Port Binding feature allows administrators to bind a source IP address with an associated MAC and also to define the port number to enhance user access control. Furthermore with the DHCP Snooping feature, the switch automatically understands the IP/MAC pairs by snooping DHCP packets and by saving them to the IMPB white list. These features play a significant role in keeping the network secure and auditable.
Resilience/performance enhancement For mission critical environments the DES-3052 series supports 802.1D-2004 edition, 802.1w and 802.1s Spanning Tree Protocols (STP). STP allows you to configure the switch with a redundant backup bridge path, so transmission and reception of packets can be guaranteed in event of any fail-over switch on the network. The switches also support 802.3ad Link Aggregation, which enable you to group multiple ports in parallel to form a single port, increasing bandwidth and redundancy for higher availability. For the Quality of Service (QoS), the switches support 802.1p.
Traffic and bandwidth control The bandwidth control feature allows network administrators to define the throughput levels for each port to manage bandwidth. It also provides fine granularity to define the ingress/egress traffic limits down to 64Kbps segments. The switches also support the broadcast storm control feature, which minimizes the chances of a virus attack within the network. Port mirroring helps administrators facilitate traffic diagnostics or track switch performance and alter if it is necessary.
Multicast applications The DES-3052 series provides IGMP snooping to prune multicast traffic and to optimize network performance. The MLD snooping feature minimizes multicast IPv6 packets at the port level to conserve network bandwidth.
Management capabilities The DES-3052 series supports standard management protocols such as SNMP, RMON, Telnet, SSH/SSL security authentication and DHCP Relay Option 82.
