As regular readers of our blog will attest, we like to bring you new and innovative technology ideas. Not all of them we sell but all of them spark our interest.
We have stumbled across another cracking idea.
Ladies and gentleman we give you the USB CONDOM !
If you’re like me you often turn up at a meeting or a friends house and realise that your phone or tablet urgently needs a charge and ask to borrow a USB port. However if like me you never stop to think,’Who could be stealing my data.’ Well it happens and now you can tread safely with the neat USB Condom.
The USB Condom prevents accidental data exchange when your device is plugged in to another device with a USB cable. USB Condoms achieve this by cutting off the data pins in the USB cable and allowing only the power pins to connect through. Thus, these “USB Condoms” prevent virus attacks.
What a great idea. The company behind the piece of tech are the US based , a team of security experts working to keep sensitive data secure. Aware of the increasing amount of fake public charging stations that can download private data they believe that the ‘Condom’ is here to combat attacks.
So how does it work?
USB cables are made up of different cables, wrapped in a single protective casing. Each has a different function, with two serving to provide electricity while another transfer data. The USB condom is a small chip that has both male and female ports. These connect between a device and the unknown USB port, effectively severing any data connection but linking up the power cables.
So whereas previously your smartphone will have made all of your internal storage files accessible to the PC this is no longer an issue. It effectively only transfers power and not data!
As with so many nifty ideas this stemmed from an experiment. The team at had no idea what they had stumbled upon and almost cast it aside. It wasn’t until the gadget began to gain popularity they were in to a winner.
Now millions of us worldwide can sleep easy knowing our data is secure and no longer under threat from high-risk tech.
We shall continue to hunt for more great gadgets and report back.
Until next time.
