Unified communications demand 'to increase in 2012' - Structure Cabling

Continued growth in unified communications (UC) has been predicted for 2012, meaning greater demand for network cables.

According to Channel Insider, UC projects moved beyond the basics of VoIP, instant messaging and presence in 2011, as companies became more aware of the potential of such platforms.

The news provider said more firms adopted the advanced features US vendors have been working on in recent years.

"Video, mobility and collaboration were the real stars of the year, and projects including them are sure to continue into 2012 and beyond," Channel Insider stated.

Rich Costello, senior research analyst for unified communications and enterprise communications infrastructure at IDC, agreed with this take on the industry at present.

"Although the growth of unified communications was dampened by the shaky economy, the market for UC solutions has continued to grow," he stated.

Mr Costello said more businesses will look to take advantage of the technologies' robust features and the cost savings typically associated with UC - and this means greater demand for network equipment.
