Cisco was the star of the Ethernet switches market during the third quarter of 2011, it has been reported.
According to Infonetics Research, the firm - which has had a difficult time competing with HP switches over the past year - turned things around between July and September.
The analyst said Cisco had turned things around with "a blowout quarter", showing that their internal reorganisation and more aggressive stance are starting to pay off.
Cisco increased its Ethernet switch revenue by 18 per cent, capturing 68 per cent of the global market during Q3 2011.
"It’s impossible to tell where things go from here, but at least for now, Cisco has changed the momentum," said Matthias Machowinski, directing analyst for enterprise networks and video at Infonetics Research.
Overall, 13 per cent more switches were sold during the third quarter than in the previous three months, generating £3.2 billion in revenue.
The report said Ethernet switch average selling prices have declined over 20 per cent during the past year, but now vendors are "holding the line" on discounting.
