PoE shipments see 'significant increase'

PoE shipments see 'significant increase'Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) port shipments have gone up by more than 80 per cent in the past three months, according to reports.

Figures from Dell'Oro Group revealed that PoE now made up 20 per cent of worldwide Ethernet switch port shipments.

This was up significantly on the same quarter last year, website Network World reports.

The rise in Gigabit Ethernet PoE port shipments has increased significantly as businesses continue to purchase more as they expand their networks as a result of converged voice and data.

According to Dell'Oro, Cisco and Nortel are among the companies driving the growth.

Meanwhile, the Ethernet switch market was up by $4.8 billion over the period – up 12 per cent on last year's figures.
