Network equipment specialist Nexans has launched a new Ethernet switch system which is designed for use in harsh industrial environments.
The iSwitch G 1043E adds to Nexans comprehensive line-up of digital switches which provide power over Ethernet capabilities.
Containing three fibre opticconnectors and eight standard twisted-pair connectors, for use with Cat5 and Cat6 leads, the new device can be used to power a variety of equipment, including digital CCTV cameras and VoIP handsets.
Nexans states: "The iSwitch allows an early detection of changes on the optical link and a fast and easy localisation of possible faults on the copper twisted pair cables links."
It is also possible to save switch configurations to a memory card via the devices integrated MMC slot. This allows users to reconfigure the switch quickly if it is subjected to a power outage.
According to the Dell'Oro Group, the Ethernet switch market is expected to start on the road to recovery in early 2010.
