The future of data centres involves more than improved network switches and routers, it has been claimed.
According to Processor, organisations will have access to network and connectivity technologies and standards similar to those in use today, but will have to deploy them in more efficient ways.
Mark Bolsoni, product director of advanced network technologies at Forsythe Technology, said data centres will see more integrated services routers carrier-class network switches, while a mix of real and virtualised storage can be achieved through switches with IP-based blades.
He told the news provider: "Fibre Channel over Ethernet also converges two distinct technologies, resulting in significant cost savings."
Bobby Guhasarkar, senior manager of product marketing at Juniper Networks also said the next ten years will see greater energy-efficiency, as more services are consolidated into fewer devices.
Recently, IT analyst IDC claimed western European businesses saw an increase in the energy costs of their data centres of more than 13 per cent from 2006 to 2007.
