Communications hardware, software, and services provider Alcatel-Lucent is to deliver a new range of gigabit Ethernet switches for small and medium-sized businesses.
Called OmniSwitch 6400, the series includes six different stackable layer 2+ models which support either 24 or 48 ports, the company said.
Up to eight switches can be combined, offering a total capacity of 384 ports per stack.
The products are also available with power over Ethernet capabilities, allowing them to support applications such as Voice over IP.
According to Alcatel-Lucent, the OmniSwitch 6400 devices consume up to 50 per cent less power than competitive switching products.
"These low-power, economical switches are compact, yet offer high performance, multi-layered security and a rich feature set," said the company.
Earlier this month, Alcatel-Lucent's OmniSwitch 6850 and 9700 ranges were certified by the US Department of Defence as interoperable with the Defence Switched Network.
