Netgear targets small businesses with new switches - Netgear Netgear has unveiled a new range of digital switches aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises.

The ProSafe Advanced Gigabit Smart Switch allows users to combine Gigabit Ethernet with Power-over-Ethernet, which means small firms can integrate non wired network equipment and VoIP easily.

Each device has up to four power-over-Ethernet ports and the switches can also be used to power devices such as security cameras.

Maggie Wu, Netgear's Smart Switching product line manager, said that as the uptake of VoIP, wireless and other converged network technologies increases, businesses need more productive and streamlined networks.

This requires "advanced switching infrastructure that supports their needs now and in the future", she added.

Last month, Netgear launched a new range of switches aimed at audio and video professionals.

The company teamed up with Harman International to create the new devices, which were unveiled at the InfoComm 2009 conference and offer considerable cost-per-node savings when compared with the company's competitors, Netgear claimed.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19245811-ADNFCR
