Lindy unveils new PoE switch - Switches

Lindy unveils new PoE switch - Switches Network equipment manufacturer Lindy Electronics has announced a new Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch which enables up to eight PoE devices to be connected.

The Lindy 8 Port PoE Gigabit Web Smart Switches feature "comprehensive" performance and management controls and its switch function can be accessed via an out of bound RS-232 terminal port connection and an in-band IP access from local or remote locations.

According to the company, the way PoE simply integrates data, voice and power onto a Cat5 cable removes the need for a local power supply for the devices.

"Our latest switch is suitable for enterprise companies or SOHO users who want to use a high speed network, but are restricted in the devices they use because of the constraints imposed by power sockets," said Andrew Ingram, product manager at the firm.

He added that PoE devices lead to a reduction in cable costs for many organisations and offer a viable solution to implementing business-critical devices beyond the "normal boundaries".

Earlier this month, Siemens announced that it is expanding its X-300 Industrial Ethernet Switches range.
