HP ProCurve has announced the launch of a new series of green-certified switches which are suitable for high-performance applications.
According to the firm, the 2910 Switch Series can be used for unified communications, voice over internet protocol, network storage, video streaming and for large databases.
The switches also offer the option of power over Ethernet, one of the first series of switches to include the standard.
HP's ProCurve 2910 switches have received the Miercom Certified Green Distinction Award and claim to offer a 23 per cent energy cost saving when compared with an average industry switch.
The switches are mountable in server racks or server cabinets and are capable of relaying data a rate of ten gigabits.
HP notes that they are interoperable with other vendors network equipment.
According to Tech News World, IT companies who want to go green have to do more than simply switching off lights when leaving the office or recycling drinks cans and paper.
