Electro Standards Laboratories has launched a new remotely controlled server switch which is Cat5 cable compatible.
The PathWay Model 7350 Tri-Channel RJ45 A/B Switch with remote control is a slim device that offers three independently controlled switches,
Mountable in server racks or server cabinets, each channel may be individually controlled by the front panel's push button or remotely.
Other features include the devices ability to maintain its switch position during a temporary power loss.
When power is returned to the device, the switch will return to the position stored by the remote port, with all eight pins on the RJ45 interface being realigned.
Recently Arista launched new one unit rack-mountable server switches which offer either 24 or 48 ports and are compatible with either Cat5 or Cat6 leads.
Vice-president for marketing at the firm Mark Foss said: "[Businesses want] backward compatibility with the products they're replacing, because often people will upgrade certain parts of their networks first."
