Department store John Lewis is one of the first retailers to have included Cisco's EnergyWise technology for Cisco Catalyst switches as part of its green IT agenda.
The store chain has been using the networking equipment for the past few months and is set to roll it out fully to its head office in an initial deployment stage, reports ITPro.
Speaking to the news provider, Steve Parker, John Lewis' technical architect, said the Cisco switches are being used to switch off IP telephones overnight and will be used on the Ethernet network.
John Lewis has been a long-time user of Cisco networking equipment and is using the EnergyWise technology alongside its own green measures which include consolidating servers and switching off PCs at night.
Cisco has teamed with Dell to combine its Nexus switches into PowerEdge servers and storage in a bid to simplify date centre cabling and reduce costs.
