Cisco has revealed its new Cisco Nexus 5000 Series of data centre-class switches, which will provide its customers and partners with enhancements to industry interoperability and data product innovation.
The series a joint effort between Cisco and Nuova Systems - enhances the networking giant's data centre switch portfolio and forms part of its drive to invest over the coming year and a half in new products.
The company also introduced a new ecosystem of application and system partners.
Cisco Nexus 5000 meets a number of tough customer requirements in terms of transport flexibility, scalability and operational continuity.
Using a unified fabric will enable IT companies to make their cabling infrastructure easier, while cutting costs and becoming more energy efficient.
"We believe the benefits to SAVVIS of a unified fabric are multifold, including the ability to provide our customers with a higher quality of service as well as total cost of ownership reduction within our data centre operations," said Bryan Doerr, chief technology officer at SAVVIS a global IT services provider currently trialling the Cisco Nexus 5000.
He added: "The Cisco Nexus 5000's ability to deliver this unified fabric today makes it an attractive platform for us and we are actively evaluating it."
