Networking giant Cisco has revealed its new series of data centre switches, it has been announced.
The Cisco Nexus 5000 Series has been revealed as part of the company's plans to evolve its network-enabled Data Centre 3.0 vision to move it into a virtualised environment.
Cisco also introduced industry-leading interoperability through an application and systems partners ecosystem.
The new series bolsters Cisco's already-existing data centre switch portfolio and is the latest in its plans for investment over the next year and a half.
It was created by Cisco in collaboration with Nuova Systems a start-up which has received Cisco investment.
Bryan Doerr, chief technology officer of SAVVIS, said: "We believe the benefits to SAVVIS of a unified fabric are multifold, including the ability to provide our customers with a higher quality of service as well as total cost of ownership reduction within our data centre operations.
"The Cisco Nexus 5000's ability to deliver this unified fabric today makes it an attractive platform for us and we are actively evaluating it."
