Blade Network Technologies has launched its new RackSwitch family of Ethernet switches, it has been announced.
The company deals in network virtualisation for servers and storage and has revealed the new family of Gigabit and ten Gigabit Ethernet switches the first of their kind for rack-level network virtualisation.
The new 1U RackSwitch product family has the same benefits for server virtualisation within the network at rack level and is able to cut down on energy use with rack-friendly cooling.
Blade's innovative approach is being hailed as 'Rackonomics' and will bring down the overall costs of data centre infrastructure ownership.
Data centre architects will also for the first time be able to standardise on a unified and affordable rack-level network infrastructure.
Vikrahm Mehta, president and CEO of Blade Network Technologies, said: "A perfect storm of factors - among them server and storage virtualization, I/O-intensive Web 2.0 applications andthe move to data center consolidation using blade servers, multi-core CPUs and converged I/O fabrics - is overloading data center networks.
"Weathering this overload requires a revolutionary new set of customer-driven rules for the data center that is becoming known as 'Rackonomics'."
He added: "BLADE's RackSwitch is inspired by Rackonomics for data center networking that is 'Virtual, Cooler and Easier' so that IT departments can contain total cost of ownership, deliver greater return on investment and increase business flexibility."
