Netgear launches networking joint venture - Netgear

Netgear launches networking joint venture - Netgear Netgear has teamed up with Harman International to launch a new range of switches for the transmission of audio and video over Ethernet.

The companies are both leading network equipment manufacturers, and the joint venture will mark the creation of the world's first IEEE audio video bridge.

Launched at the InfoComm 2009 conference, the new switches are available in either 16-port or 24-port versions and feature specialised AVB hardware and software – making them suitable for a variety of applications.

According to the firms the Netgear switches offer audio-video (AV) professionals with considerable cost-per-node savings when they are deploying AV networks.

"I am confident that AVB will grow the market for professional-grade AV products and services by enabling a new, wider variety of AV applications from distance learning in education and corporate training," Robert Urry, Harman Professional chief technology officer, told 4rfv.co.uk.

Meanwhile, Netgear has just launched a new wireless router, which it claims offers exceptional range and signal strength.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19236745-ADNFCR
