Netgear launches Ethernet powerline adapter - Netgear

Netgear launches Ethernet powerline adapter - Netgear Netgear has launched a new powerline adapter aimed at allowing users to have cabled internet access around their homes.

The Netgear XAVB101 Powerline kit comes with two Ethernet cables and offers users a simple installation process, it has been claimed.

According to digital-lifestyle.info, the pair of adapters "find" each other, so plugging a DSL modem into one and a Pc into the other allows for a quick and easy extendable internet connection.

"Up to 32 powerline adapters can be meshed into a single network, though by using the supplied software, multiple networks can be configured - o there could be more than 32 powerline adapters in a building," the website states.

The system is entirely plug and play and works straight out of the box.
Compared with Cat5 or Cat6 cables the data transfer speed is relatively low, however the cost of wiring a house with this sort of cabling is often prohibitive.

Netgear has also recently introduced a new 802.11n USB adapter which costs less than £10.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19205668-ADNFCR
