Structured cabling needs to be considered as an entire system rather than individual components, it has been claimed.Writing for Voiceanddata.com, Scott Penno explained that businesses need to use the right type of network cables, installed to the correct standard.
For example, he said that if not all components of the system are of a particular category, then the system will not perform as required.
Mr Penno said that structured cabling using twisted pair cabling is available in a number of different grades.
Each of these different grades will support different bandwidths, he noted.
"As an example, Cat 5 cable will support Gigabit Ethernet but not 10 Gigabit Ethernet," Mr Penno stated.
The writer explained there are a number of choices which need to be made when building a network.
These include the type of physical infrastructure which should be used, the applications which need to be supported and the mix of wired and wireless which will be needed.
