TIA to work on global cabling standard - Telephone

TIA to work on global cabling standard - Telephone The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) has proposed a global cabling standard for telecommunications infrastructure used in healthcare facilities.

Work has already begun on the new standard, which will outline a range of cabling topologies, lead distances and pathway requirements that should be adhered to, to ensure that networking equipment is easy to operate and maintain.

Documentation for the new cabling standard will incorporate existing biomedical systems infrastructure such as RFID, BAS, nurse call, security and pharmaceutical inventory systems.

It will be developed by the TIA Engineering Committee TR-42 User Premises Telecommunications Cabling Infrastructure's Subcommittee.

Recently, the North Bristol NHS Trust completed the construction of a dedicated data centre which will replace its existing facility – staff are expected to be using the updated facility by the end of summer.

The organisation claims the new centre, which uses cutting edge structured cabling will reduce energy consumption by as much as 70 per cent.

It uses environmentally lighting and an energy-efficient cooling system.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19334494-ADNFCR
