Reduce costs using UC network tools - Structure Cabling Businesses are continuing to save significant sums of money using unified communications (UC) solutions, it has been claimed.

According to Information Week, much of the value in the technology is about communication and collaboration between workers, and reducing time to market.

One firm, Sprint Nextel, claims to have saved an initial $12.85 million (£8.29 million) through the adoption of UC solutions.

Savings have come from reduced local exchange carrier circuit costs, avoiding the purchase of new PBX systems, and lower conference call costs and other expenses.

Joe Hamblin, senior manager of enterprise communications and collaboration at Sprint, said the firm had invested in modern network equipment to improve the user experience for its customers.

"We were no longer working in our offices like we used to," he stated.

"We found that people were trying to conduct their business from anywhere but the office."

He claimed that by using network tools to integrate UC, the firm may be able to save almost £15 million per year.
