Siemon warns of standards confusion - Structure Cabling

Siemon warns of standards confusion - Structure Cabling Cabling and network equipment manufacturer Siemon has warned consumers of the danger of confusing global structured cabling standards.

The firm said that standards issues are often complex and difficult to understand and buyers should be aware that different standards of cabling are not always interchangeable.

Siemon points to the imminent ratification of the ISO/IEC 11801:2002 Amd 2.0 for Class EA link performance and Cat6 cable compliance, which is not compatible with the North American TIA/EIA standard.

"Many - if not most - people in the networking industry still" believe that the two standards are compatible with each other, the company said.

Lee Funnell, Siemon's technical manager for EMEA added that there are very significant requirement differences and so TIA compliance "is not enough for the majority of countries where the ISO standards apply".

According to leading cabling and connector manufacturer Netgear, it is vital that businesses choose the correct cabling for their networking requirements. ADNFCR-1186-ID-19143919-ADNFCR
