Rural Wales to be given broadband infrastructure boost - Structure Cabling

Rural Wales to be given broadband infrastructure boost - Structure CablingFresh funding is to be made available to help businesses and households across Wales benefit from high-speed internet access.

Under the new plans outlined by the Welsh Assembly Government, businesses operating in rural areas without access to broadband will benefit from the money.

The £2 million fund will enable thousands of homes and businesses to make use of grants of up to £1,000, with this money to be used to pay for connection costs, though not for the cost of subscribing to a broadband service.

Launching the initiative, Welsh minister for rural affairs, Elin Jones, said: "This scheme continues our commitment to provide improved services for rural areas and in particular access to the internet which is critical for those living and working across Wales."

Already, businesses across Wales are benefiting from the Assembly Government's Regional Innovative Broadband Support (RIBS) project, with official statistics showing that more than 8,500 firms have so far been helped through the scheme.

Just recently, the UK Online Measurement Company (UKOM) issued a report noting that broadband access in the UK is steadily becoming 'universal'.
