A range of options are available for businesses and organisations seeking patch panels as an alternative to network switches. The panels - which are used for purposes including telephone connections, video applications and data transfers - come in a variety of different forms.
Cat5e and Cat6 patch panels are available to businesses according to their individual cabling requirements, while fibre panels are also now available.
Data centre managers can also select from Keystone Jack, ADC Krone and HellermannTyton patch panels, and select from a range of accessories to aid installation and cable management in the cabinet.
These include cable tidy devices and recessed cable management panels, along with cable dump, brush strip and blanking panels.
"Patch panels are large panels that look similar to a switchboard," explained eHow's Laura Rupert Garcia.
"There are many cable connections; shorter cables are plugged into the front panel and longer cables are plugged in on the back panel."
