Despite the recession reducing the volume of cable products sold worldwide, the need for more advanced technologies has buoyed the structured cabling systems (SCS), it has been claimed.
According to a new study by Research and Markets, entitled Economic Recession Impact on the SCS Market, lower volumes of unshielded twisted pair leads, such as the commonplace Cat5e and Cat6 cables, may lead to the conclusion that the SCS market is suffering during the recession.
However, the report's authors state that "the decreased volume of cabling products caused by the recession is more than offset by the higher performance, more expensive cabling systems now needed for newer applications".
VoIP and more advanced data centres are increasingly impacting on sales and revenues in the structured cabling sector.
Research and Markets predicts that between now and 2014 the SCS sector will grow by 14.9 per cent.
Meanwhile, network security firm SafeNet claims that fibre optic leads will become the de facto choice for infrastructure installers in the future.
