Alps launches 'industry's thinnest' power switch - Network AccessoriesElectronics firm Alps has launched what it claims is the industry's thinnest power switch for use in flat-screen TVs and PC monitors.

According to the company, the one pole rocker SDDJF1A series is highly reliable and durable, with excellent insulation properties.

Alps pointed out that the consumer electronics industry is examining the use of AC power switches in televisions as a way to reduce energy consumption.

The group said conventional switches allow minute electrical currents to flow to TV sets even when they are switched off.

But AC power switches cut the power line on and off, result in the same zero standby current as a disconnected power plug.

Mass production of the Alps SDDJF1A Series, which is halogen-free and supports both solder and connector mounting, is to begin this month.

Last month, Alps announced the launch of its SPVQ9 series of sliding contact micro switches for use in emergency devices and for detecting mechanism movement in automotive and consumer electronics products.
