Data centre owners can boost their green credentials by adopting smarter structured cabling practices.
This is the view of CP Rangaraj, product manager for enterprise cabling solution at global cable distribution company Anixter.
Speaking to the Voice & Data magazine, he said good cable management is essential if data centre owners want to reduce their impact on the environment.
"High density cabling solutions can reduce congestion in pathways and cabinets, thereby promoting airflow," he explained.
"Passive cooling solutions that incorporate innovative cabinet designs promote optimised air flow management," he added.
Good cable management can save space in the data centre, which again is better for the environment.
In a recent article for the Data Center Journal, expert Rod Sampson said cutting square footage can reduce energy usage substantially.
He recommended using intuitive cable routing as well as wall-mounted, high-density optical fibre and copper patching solutions to save space.
