The Welsh Assembly government has been urged to use fire proof industrial cabling in its offices.
North Wales minister Janet Ryder recently visited welsh network equipment manufacturer Wrexham Mineral Cable with economic development minister Ieuan Wyn Jones.
She said: "The safety cable of the type that this factory makes could be incorporated into many public buildings and I was delighted that we were able to bring the minister to see the cable for himself."
Ryder added that the cabling, which can withstand extremely high temperatures, could be the difference between life and death if a fire broke out.
She claimed she would be pushing for all new Welsh Assembly building projects to use fire proof cabling.
According to the Welsh Assembly, there are areas of Wales which cannot access entry-level broadband services.
The reason for this is that isolated areas require copper cabling which is too long and some regions have wiring which is of too poor a quality.
