European Parliament gets new transmission equipment - Structure Cabling

European Parliament gets new transmission equipment - Structure CablingDiginet has chosen BAL Broadcast to supply it with network equipment for video transmission in the European Parliament.

The equipment is worth in excess of £100,000 and will be used for translation facilities in Brussels.

It will allow for serial digital video to be sent over Cat5 and Cat6 cables, allowing the structured cabling already in use in the parliament building to carry the broadcast quality data.

The BALBOX SVC5012 and C5SV012 allow the use of Cat5 cable to transmit signals up to 115 metres with no errors.

Also supplied was a server rack solution, the BALRACK30.

During testing, the equipment was found to far exceed the requirements laid out by the European Parliament and Diginet.

The servers will be housed in five rooms, with each server rack holding nine units.

Maurice de Jonghe, chief operating officer at BAL Broadcast, said: "We are pleased to have been chosen by Diginet for such a prestigious project."

According to cepro.com, standard Cat5 cabling does not contain enough wiring to support full high-definition signals.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19067418-ADNFCR
