Ethernet remains the most pervasive networking technology within the data communications market, it has been claimed.According to a new report from Bishop & Associates, released by The Market Publishers, fibre channel and InfiniBand continue to lag behind in second and third place.
However, the report predicts that InfiniBand will surpass fibre channel over the coming 12 months, due to its increasing penetration into the high performance computing sector.
The technology's adoption into low-latency applications like financial trading is also helping to encourage uptake, it has been reported.
But still, by 2015, it will only be about one-fifth the size of the Ethernet cables market, Bishop & Associates said.
Last week, Saar Gillai, chief technology officer at HP Networking, predicted increased demand for higher bandwidth networks during 2012.
Speaking to EnterpriseNetworkingPlanet, he said more companies will be looking to deploy 40GbE and 100GbE Ethernet solutions in the coming 12 months.
