Home networking installations using Cat6 cables will offer uses twice the data transfer distance available to users who install standard Cat5 cables, it has been claimed.
According to CEPro's Jeff Boccaccio, those installing network equipment should opt for Cat6 cabling if the option is available.
The website's writer states that as well as being able to increase the separation between networked devices, Cat6 leads have an inner sheath that ensures the twisted pair wires are more flexible.
Cabling installers have also been warned that care is needed to avoid damage to cabling which can cause network timing issues.
Mr Boccaccio said: "These distortions with the cable can cause server timing and Inter Symbol Interference issues, which can cause sparkles or intermittent video. Be careful installing Cat5/6."
He concluded that "cat cables are pretty damn easy to install".
Cat5e cablies can be used for Gigabit Ethernet cabling and were developed specifically for use with 1000BASE-TX networks.
