Call for more fibre cables - Structure Cabling

Call for more fibre cables - Structure CablingAn expert has called for more investment to be made into fibre cables in order to prevent the country falling behind in broadband speeds.

Roger Webster, managing director of Webro, has pointed out that the UK already lags behind nations such as the US, Japan and China and that laying down fibre cables will be the only way to speed up broadband services.

He added: "The country's slow take up of fibre to date will continue to cause major bottlenecks unless additional investment plans are driven quickly forward.

"The UK is hampered by the legacy of aging copper installations and needs to continue to push out the laying of fibre optic cables to bring superfast broadband to as many homes, schools and businesses as possible."

Mr Webster also made the argument that, whatever the investment made is, the benefits of fibre optic broadband will outweigh it.

In the run up to the general election, the Conservative Party had indicated that it would seek private investment to fund the rollout of fibre cables, rather than any taxation.
