HCM introduces new fibre cable - CableNetwork equipment manufacturer Hitachi Cable Manchester has introduced a new fibre optic cable which houses a 24-fibre Nanocore.

The single jacket-style cabling, is the latest addition to its Nanocore range and is aimed at InfiniBand and Active Optical Cable customers.

It combines standard copper connectors with optical transceivers, bringing together two distinct technologies and offering networking professionals the best of both worlds, the company states.

Joseph Iamartino, director of new business development at Hitachi Cable Manchester, said: "Active Optical Cables provide customers with all the benefits that fibre optic delivers such as long distance transmission and electro-magnetic immunity, without the hassles of end face dust contamination or scratches."

He added that the copper connector is gold-plated to ensure it remains tarnish free and is also self-cleaning when plugged into a port.

Speaking at the Digital Britain summit in London last week, Lord Mandelson said the government is ready to invest in next generation broadband and fibre optic technologies.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19131854-ADNFCR
