Global IP telephony market revenue up 'significantly'

Global IP telephony market revenue up 'significantly'Global IP telephony market revenue has increased by nearly four times in 12 months, new figures reveal.

Revenues went up from $1,834 million in 2005 to $6,908 million in 2006, with western Europe alone producing revenue of $2,639.

Western Europe has the largest number of IP subscribers and the Asia-Pacific, which has almost the same number, generated $1,750 million over the period, according to analyst company Point Topic.

Meanwhile, North America produced $2,411 million in revenue.

John Bosnell, senior analyst at Point Topic, said: "The more Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is offered as a part of a bundle of services, the higher the average monthly VoIP revenue."

He added: "In the longer term it is likely that IP telephony will start to dominate the residential telephony market as is already beginning to happen in the corporate sector."
