Cable management in data centres is as much about state of mind as it is about hardware, it has been claimed.
According to SearchDataCenter.com, managers and cable specialists at the AFCOM Data Centre World event thought mindset was equally as important to data centre design as picking the right server cabinets and Cat6 leads.
Greg Rottman, assistant director in the IT lab at the US Army Engineer Research and Development Centre, told the website: "You have to get people to learn discipline.
"You need record keeping and good follow-through. It's the art of discipline," he added.
He claimed that good cable management gives data centre administrators easier access to network equipment in the event of a problem, but it can also make cooling more efficient by boosting airflow around a facility.
Recently the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers issued guidance on a range of server rack and server cabinet cooling issues.
