'Breakthrough performance from copper cabling'

'Breakthrough performance from copper cabling'Two British firms have teamed up and introduced a next generation copper cabling system for 10Gbit Ethernet transmission.

NextLAN 10GC AXi, which was created by Superior Essex and Leviton Network Solutions is the first UTP cabling system that guarantees a four decibel performance margin and uses a round cable with an external diameter of just 0.30-inches.

According to the two firms involved in the cabling venture, the key to its improved performance is a specially designed isolation wrap, which allows it to compete with similar fully shielded category 6A cabling (Cat 6 cable).

"Our customers have repeatedly told us that they don’t want to choose between the... benefits of a shielded cabling system and the numerous benefits of an unshielded system," said Gary Bernstein, director and product management of copper systems for Leviton Network Solutions.

He said the NextLAN 10GC AXi captures the best features of both types of network cables.

Last week Mayflex, which specialises in physical security and network solutions, said it was set to distribute Overland Storage's SnapServer product range.ADNFCR-1186-ID-18982746-ADNFCR
