Blyth wind farm to come back online

Blyth wind farm to come back onlineBlyth offshore wind farm is set to come back online after being out of action since March 2006, it has been reported.

Located one kilometre off the cost of Northumberland the two wind turbines, which have the potential to generate four megawatts of energy, have been unusable since an undersea transmission cable was damaged on the rocky sea bed, according to New Energy Focus.

Repairs began when E.ON had acquired full ownership of the farm in June 2007, the website states.

Previous stakeholders in the project included Shell, Nuon and Amec.

A spokeswoman for E.ON told the news provider: "A brand new armoured cable has now been laid, along a different route, and has now been energised over the past few days with a view to returning the site to power."

She added that the wind farm, which is Britain's first offshore generator should be up and running by the end of the month.

Meanwhile, a leading manufacturer of undersea cables, Prysmian Cables & Systems is said to showcase its products at ADIPEC in Abu Dhabi between November 3rd and 6th.ADNFCR-1186-ID-18852578-ADNFCR
